Программа обучения "Civil Systems Engineering" в Technische Universität Berlin

Civil Systems Engineering

Modern urban infrastructures such as apartments, office buildings or traffic routes are socio-technological systems with many natural, technical and social components that interact with each other. Planning, construction, operation and maintenance of these systems are complex tasks that need to be supported by intelligent computer-based modeling methods. The master's degree in Civil Systems Engineering is a research-oriented degree that addresses these challenges and trains students to become specialists in the management of complex technical design processes. As systems engineers, they are familiar with the use of digital methods that make it possible to integrate empirical and theoretical simulation methods across system boundaries into complex design and planning processes.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Civil Systems Engineering"

Systems engineers can manage complex planning processes in large and small engineering companies, but also for public settings. The research-oriented approach of the course enables graduates to assume leading roles in industrial and academic development companies and departments.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Civil Systems Engineering"

The course trains system engineers to respond to the increasing complexity of buildings and infrastructure. In addition to the already well-trained monodisciplinary civil engineers, system engineers fulfill an important task in the engineering design process. Systems engineers are specialists in the management of complex technical design processes using digital methods that make it possible to integrate empirical and theoretical simulation methods into complex design processes across system boundaries. In addition, the students receive in-depth training in various digital methods such as product modelling, data analysis, multi-physical simulation and life cycle analysis. The research-based approach of the course also enables students to develop new innovative methods and put them into practice.

Международный обмен по программе обучения "Civil Systems Engineering"

It is possible to take part in an exchange program with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology in Taipei.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Civil Systems Engineering"

There is no mandatory internship, but the course has good connections to industry, public institutions and other universities. These contacts give students the opportunity to get to know research teams or companies and to supplement their academic work with practical experience. We provide various opportunities for cooperation with international companies from different branches of industry, also during the project module or the master's thesis. This can make it easier to enter the professional world. In addition, our Integrated Concurrent Engineering (ICE) room is available to students as a digital workplace with the latest technical equipment. Students can use this room free of charge to work on their projects and participate in video conferences or working group meetings.

Учебный план программы обучения "Civil Systems Engineering"

The four-semester master's program consists of compulsory, compulsory elective and elective modules as well as a master's thesis.

The Civil Systems Engineering course aims to prepare a new generation of systems engineers who can deal with the ever-increasing complexity of the built environment. In the first year, the course offers a series of compulsory basic modules in the modeling of infrastructure and buildings as well as in the modeling of the underlying operational and maintenance processes. Building on these basic modules, students can then choose from a range of compulsory elective modules in order to acquire advanced topics. In the third semester, in addition to various elective modules, students also choose a research project that ideally serves as preparatory work for the master's thesis in the fourth semester.

The Master's degree is structured in modules that bundle the course content on a specific topic and often include different forms of study and teaching, e.g. lectures, exercises, seminars or practical projects. In each module, a fixed number of credit points and specific coursework and examinations must be completed.

Mandatory modules:

  • Modeling Civil Engineered Systems
  • Multi-Physics approaches for modeling civil systems
  • Whole Life Civil Systems Analysis
  • Engineering Agile Civil Systems
  • Project Systems Engineering (Independent Research Study)

Selected elective modules:

  • Circular Economy for the Built Environment: Principles, Practices and Methods
  • Complex Civil Energy Systems Design
  • Data Engineering
  • Integrated Collaborative Civil Systems Engineering

You can find an up-to-date overview of all modules of the course in the form of a module list in the so-called module transfer system (MTS), the central module database of the TU Berlin. The MTS gives you an overview of which modules are mandatory for you and which can be chosen freely. In addition, detailed module descriptions provide you with information about the content, learning objectives, participation requirements, workload, type of examination, etc.
