In the course of your studies you will acquire knowledge and understanding of business management tools for corporate management. In addition, you will become familiar with the most important management skills that are essential in the context of corporate and personnel management. On this basis you will be able to make management decisions better in the future.

After successfully completing your degree, you will be able to work as a management trainee in specific industries in media, communication and advertising agencies as well as in media companies and their advertising marketing companies. You can also work in marketing and communication functions regardless of the industry or become self-employed.

The Bachelor of Communication and Multimedia Management qualifies you, regardless of the industry, for entry as a management trainee in numerous fields of corporate and market communication, for example in the areas of advertising, PR, direct marketing, sales promotion, etc.

You can also take on the company-specific conception and design of multimedia communication and information tools such as websites, pod and videocasts or mobile services.

In addition, they are industry-specific qualified for management functions in agencies, production companies, consulting companies and other service providers in the media and communication sector.

Advertising and media agencies

Düsseldorf is the absolute front runner in the communications industry. 15 of the top 100 advertising agencies alone, including the largest three, have their headquarters in Düsseldorf. These include e.g. BBDO, Gray, Publicis, DDB, Citigate. Even the largest media agencies in Germany, such as MediaCom or OMD have their headquarters in Düsseldorf.

In these companies in particular, networking communicative issues with digital media is a requirement that can be met by a comprehensive and practice-oriented course at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.

Media companies and their advertising marketers

As a location in the media industry, NRW is of great and growing importance, ahead of Hamburg and Munich. The largest TV and radio stations in Germany - for example WDR and the RTL family of channels - and their advertising marketers are based here.

Digitization and multimediaization pose great challenges for the industry. Düsseldorf must secure its communication and media competence in the competitive environment and train top-qualified young professionals.

Retail and consumer goods industry

Companies in the retail and consumer goods industry traditionally have a high need for qualified communication specialists and have therefore built up a long-term relationship with the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences. In these industries, too, the importance of digital media in the context of integrated corporate communication is increasing. Then there are the challenges of electronic business.

The region is characterized by a large number of international corporations, where graduates of the course have particularly good opportunities. These include e.g. Henkel, L’Óreal, Bayer, Douglas, Metro, C&A or Vodafone.

Self-employment in the digital economy

This branch of the economy, which is still quite young but is growing rapidly, is primarily characterized by many small, innovative companies. Here, too, professional management plays a major role. The “Communication and Multimedia Management” course can provide support here and train highly qualified entrepreneurs. What is missing in many small companies today is an overarching view of commercial, technical and communicative issues. The course is intended to fill this gap.

The study program is divided into modules according to the course schedule: The basis is the teaching of the basics of communication and media management, corporate management, law and various management techniques. This is followed by the subjects of business English, communication and multimedia management, e-business and design management. In the third and fifth semester, specialization modules are offered: trade fair management, PR and press work, website and app conception, social media management, e-entrepreneurship, online marketing and TV content development (as of: WS 2019/20). Three of these specialization modules have to be taken.

In the final sixth semester, the students implement a project. The course ends with an academic thesis (bachelor thesis) and a colloquium.

The specialization modules that you can choose from in the third and fifth semesters are characterized by their very high practical relevance. This gives you the opportunity to gain insights into professional practice and potential fields of activity through practical projects and seminar papers.

    The Faculty of Media – founded in December 2000 – offers study programmes around new media und multimedia and their usage in all social and commercial areas: a bachelor’s programme in media engineering, audio and video and media informatics as well as a master’s programme in media informatics.

    Our students are trained to become highly qualified experts for (multi)media solutions. They gather knowledge and competences during lectures, seminars and lab work as well as in many interdisciplinary projects – from the fundamentals to advanced application of media technology. Our graduates know all phases from analysis to design, implementation and presentation and can thus find suitable solutions in terms of economy, design and technology.​
