The Bachelor of Arts Culture and Economics (BaKuWi) degree consists of a core subject and a subject.

The core subject media and communication science  imparts the basics and theories of communication and media systems. The focus of the bachelor's degree is on the scientific analysis of communication and media. For example, it examines how the Internet, news or films influence and change social systems and society. Business English courses complement the degree.

As a subject, students can choose between Business Administration (BWL) and Economics (VWL). In the subject Business Administration, courses in finance, marketing, management, business informatics, accounting and production are offered. The University of Mannheim focuses on seminars on business ethics. In the subject Economics, students acquire statistical knowledge and gain an insight into micro and macroeconomics. Another focus is on economic history.

BaKuWi graduates know and understand business concepts and processes and are therefore particularly in demand at the interface between communication and business. For example, they work in project management for PR agencies, in management consulting, in marketing or in sales.

The course also qualifies you for an academic career in media and communication studies or in economics.

The University of Mannheim is networked worldwide. The Faculty of Humanities cooperates with more than 150 partner universities and, together with the International Office, supports you with your plans abroad. The ideal time for a stay abroad is the fourth or fifth semester, individual arrangements are not a problem. A stay abroad is recommended, but not mandatory in this course.

    At the University of Mannheim there is no classic numerus clausus (in the sense of a limit grade). In our selection process we consider the following criteria:

    • the average grade of the university entrance qualification
    • the grades for the subjects German and Mathematics
    • relevant professional activities or extracurricular achievements
