The field of application of media computer scientists includes research, business, industry, trade, administration and the service sector.
The fields of activity of a media computer scientist are diverse and offer a wide range of tasks: designing and developing multimedia applications and user interfaces, electronic publishing, digital film production, 3D graphics programming, telemedicine or e-commerce.
This variety of areas of application is the result of the diverse, interdisciplinary course at the TU Dresden, where media computer scientists are trained in design, didactics and psychology in addition to the IT-technical direction.
Our graduates work in multimedia companies, software companies, printing and publishing houses, marketing/advertising companies or media institutions, in educational institutions as well as network or industrial companies. The job titles, such as media system consultant, web/software developer, information broker, multimedia conceptioner, online editor, junior project manager or screen/video designer, are also in keeping with the times.

In addition to in-depth specialist knowledge in the media-relevant areas of computer science, the media informatics course provides a solid basic knowledge of the design of applications and media as well as university general and foreign language knowledge. The qualification beyond the computer science subjects opens up a basic understanding of media and design-related issues and promotes interdisciplinary teamwork. The aim of the bachelor's degree in Media Informatics is for the students to acquire the theoretical and practical specialist knowledge required for professional practice in the field of software engineering, media acquisition, media processing and media design, information management and intelligent and distributed complex systems, including their technical foundations. Appropriately. You will acquire an overview of the connections between the individual disciplines of computer science and media technology. They also develop or improve their ability to work according to scientific methods. Interdisciplinary courses support this objective. In addition, students are given the opportunity to design their studies in a field-related manner.
The course comprises 23 modules spread over six semesters. The modules include i.a. Areas of mathematics, algorithms and data structures, programming, software technology, computer architecture, databases and computer networks, operating systems and security, fundamentals of design and media design, media and media flows. Various modules allow you to choose your own specialization, which can be built on in the master’s degree or in your professional activity.
