Our research groups work primarily in the area of methods and systems of visualisation, analysis, exploration and processing of large amounts of data, a joint research profile that is specific to the department and unique in its form.  Our study programmes have been designed to enable you to study computer and information science at the highest level. Study

As a Department of Computer and Information Science graduate, you have fantastic career prospects both in Germany and abroad. While studying towards your degree, you can choose to specialise in the following areas: data mining, big data, data science, digital libraries, interactive systems, network science, sport informatics, systems, visual computing or computational life science. All of our study programmes also include interdisciplinary elements to help you gain as broad an understanding of the subject as possible.

Research

The Department of Computer and Information Science maintains a well established research profile: “Explorative Analysis and Interactive Visualisation of Complex Models and Large Data Spaces”. This shared profile is reflected in the research of our working groups, who specialise in different application areas such as big data, cyber-physical systems, health, network science or software certification.

Our department plays a central role in the Cluster of Excellence “Centre of the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour”. The department participates in various interdisciplinary projects, e.g. with the following disciplines: biology, chemistry, politics and public administration, economics, linguistics, psychology, sociology, sport science, literature, art, media and history.
