Faculty 2: Civil and Environmental Engineering University of Stuttgart
Fakultät 2: Bau- und Umweltingenieurwissenschaften (Universität Stuttgart)
Civil and environmental engineers shape the environment, use resources and produce durable goods that need to be operated, maintained and renewed at the end of their useful lives over long periods of time. Human health, environmental impact, aesthetics as well as the profitability of constructions and life cycle assessments are in conflict with the technical realization and the use of systems. Civil and environmental engineering are characterized by the great breadth and heterogeneity of their fields of work. They are characterized by diverse interdisciplinary cooperation with other engineers, mathematicians, computer scientists, natural scientists, legal scholars and economists. Our faculty consists of 14 institutes with 21 chairs and over 400 employees. We offer basic German-language bachelor's and master's courses, English-language master's courses and three extra-occupational further education courses. Depending on their subject, graduates can take part in a graduate school, a binational graduate college or an international doctoral program. In research, the faculty is involved in several special research areas. For two of them (SFB 1244 Adaptive Shells and Structures for the Built Environment of Tomorrow and SFB 1313 Interface-Driven Multi-Field Processes in Porous Media - Flow, Transport and Deformation) the respective speakers are professors of the faculty.
