Fakultät Bauwesen (Hochschule für Technik, Wirtschaft und Kultur Leipzig)

Leipzig University of Applied Sciences

The roots of building training in Leipzig go back to the year 1764, although it wasn't until 1838, with the establishment of the Royal Saxon Building Trade School, that a scientific orientation in training for the building trade began. The Faculty of Construction thus ties in with a long tradition of various educational institutions, including the College of Construction and the Technical University.

More details about Faculty of Civil Engineering:

Today's Faculty of Civil Engineering with its approx. 25 professorships and numerous household and third-party funded employees sees itself as an educational unit that is recognized in teaching and at the same time strong in research, which is the central educational institution for application-oriented scientific building training in Central Germany

Approx. 1,400 students are spread over the civil engineering courses, to which there are around 350 freshmen students of the faculty every year. The conversion of the courses to the degrees Bachelor (6 semesters) and Master (4 semesters) in the course of the Bologna process has been completed. The faculty enjoys a very high level of demand in all courses, which is manifested in the number of applicants for the study places available at the faculty, which has been increasing for years. In the bachelor’s degree programs, the orientation of the course as professional, practice-oriented and application-oriented was retained. The consecutive four-semester master’s degree in civil engineering also reflects the research focus of the faculty and Humboldt’s ideal of the unity of teaching and research.

By imparting a wide range of knowledge, the graduates have the flexibility required in their profession. Together with the Faculty of Business and Economics, courses in the field of industrial engineering (construction) are also offered. As ambassadors for building training in Leipzig, more and more student faculty members are taking the opportunity to complete a subsidized partial course or internship abroad. The Faculty of Civil Engineering is also happy to welcome numerous foreign students to our university every semester. This lively exchange helps to fill the many partnership relationships with foreign universities with life.

The students have well-equipped laboratories, cabinets and classrooms at their disposal, which enable practical courses and their own experiments. Exercises and laboratory internships as well as basic and contract research at a high level are possible on more than 3000 m² of laboratory space. The laboratories are state-of-the-art, which enables the faculty to B. in the field of building material testing to use almost all standardized test methods.

The Faculty of Construction at the HTWK Leipzig is extremely strong in research, especially as a result of the tradition of the Technical University. The knowledge gained from research and further training ultimately also stimulates teaching in the degree programs. Research is carried out on a wide variety of topics. The main research areas of building structure maintenance, innovative building materials, energy efficiency and sustainability, urban hydrology and geotechnical engineering should be named as examples. A doctorate for particularly qualified graduates who are aiming for an academic career is possible in cooperation with universities in Germany and abroad. The faculty offers its own young academics the prospect of an academic career and thus supports the research work of the young academics.
