More details about Faculty of Computer Science:

Profile of the Faculty of Computer Science

The Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences has taken into account the current developments in the field of information technology and in the winter semester 2014/15 merges the computer science courses into a newly founded Faculty of Computer Science and continuously develops new courses.

Course offerings

The Faculty of Computer Science covers the most important areas of computer science with the three bachelor programs Business Information Systems (WIN), Technical Computer Science (TI) and IT Security (ITS). At the same time, the areas were so interlocked that an orientation phase was created in the first two semesters. This makes it possible to easily switch between courses. In the last three semesters, an individual focus can be placed on four different areas of Applied IT Security, IT Management, Application Development and Cyber-Physical Systems. There is also the possibility of a direct career entry or the further scientific deepening with a master's degree in Systems Engineering (SE) or Business and Security Analytics (BSA). Alternatively, in addition to work or family, a Master's degree in Data Science or Digital Forensics can be completed.

The variety of forms of learning and teaching from the lecture to the seminar and the practical project work up to the e-learning makes it possible to work on the various subject areas of the respective study program effectively and optimally adapted to the learning behavior of the students. The content is coordinated with strategic partner companies so that a targeted and employer-relevant selection of the course content can be made.

Further education

At a time when knowledge is rapidly becoming obsolete and often new, it is essential for the individual's professional qualifications to be constantly updated. Looking to the future, the Faculty of Computer Science attaches great importance to providing continuing education for a wide variety of users. In addition to the two extra-occupational online masters Data Science and Digital Forensics, we also offer individual modules on a scientific level and therefore ECTS credentials with our certificate program. Through our program Studium Initiale, we also offer people without a university entrance correction the opportunity to study. All of our continuing education courses are offered on a part-time basis and are geared to the needs of professionals who want to combine intensive skills development for their careers with work or family.

Research

Another cornerstone of the Faculty of Computer Science are its research activities. In addition to the opportunity for cooperative doctoral theses, numerous national and international projects are launched in three faculty-assigned research institutes, in collaboration with representatives of industry and science. We host IES, the "Institute for Real-Time Systems and Software Engineering", KEIM as a "Knowledge Engineering and Information Institute", and the Institute for IT GRC Management - "IT Governance, Risk and Compliance Management ". In addition, the Cyber Security Lab has created an Information Security Competence Center, which bundles our IT security activities and makes them accessible to the public.
