The production, distribution and mediation of classic and new media as well as the development of media and digital technologies in computer science, printing and media technology are the focus of the Faculty of Computer Science and Media. Their processes and influences on the economy, cultural history and society are researched and developed.

The faculty is located on the HTWK campus in the south of Leipzig. It is spread over the Lipsius-Bau, Gutenberg-Bau, Zuse-Bau and Medienzentrum buildings.

In 2019 the Faculty of Media and the Computer Science Department of the previous Faculty of Computer Science, Mathematics, Natural Sciences merged to form the new Faculty of Computer Science and Media. Each of the disciplines contributes to research and collaboration with practical partners.

The close integration of these areas promotes the processes of changing communication and the digital transformation of society. The cooperation of the disciplines makes it possible to teach and research intensively, competently, comprehensively and, above all, effectively.

You can study at the Faculty of Computer Science and Media in ten bachelor's and six master's degree programs from the spectrum of the media and information sector, plus part-time in three master's degree programs.

History

When the HTWK was founded in 1992, the Faculty of Computer Science, Mathematics and Natural Sciences arose from the departments of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences of the former TH Leipzig, which had existed since 1977.

The Faculty of Media was created in 2006 from the "Book and Museum" and "Polygraphic Technology" departments of the HTWK Leipzig, founded in 1992. It combined all courses of study dealing with traditional and new media and integrated the teaching facilities for librarians, booksellers, museologists and polygraphers, which are particularly typical of the city of Leipzig.
