The Faculty of Cultural and Social Sciences comprises seven institutes: the Institute of English Studies, the Institute of Fine Arts, the Institute of German Language and Literature, the Institute of Music, the Institute of Romance Studies, the Institute of Political Science and History, and the Institute of Theology. The faculty is primarily responsible for the design of the specialist academic and didactic studies in the cultural and social sciences area in all teacher training courses.

The faculty offers the teaching subjects German, English, French, Protestant, Catholic and Islamic theology/religious education, art, music, politics and history. Languages ​​and the associated multilingual and pluricultural content are of particular quantitative and qualitative importance in teacher training. The faculty therefore also provides significant support for the European Teaching Degree (EULA) and Integrated Study Programs (ITS) profiles. Various other bachelor's and master's degree programs at the university also include modules and module events in the cultural and social sciences. The central facilities of the faculty are the Language Center, the Writing Center and the Center for Didactic Computer Game Research, whose offerings are used by the entire university community. The offerings of the "Speech Training" teaching unit are also taken up by students of other subjects or degree programs not located in this faculty.
