More details about Faculty of Cultural Sciences:

CGL – Cologne Game Lab

Founded in 2010 as an independent institute and initially funded by the EU´s Objective 2 Programme, CGL launched with an ahead-of-its-time approach, offering the first artistic and academic postgraduate program in Game Development and Research (M.A.) across Germany. By addressing digital pioneers from all audiovisual media disciplines and bringing them together in an experimental environment with professionals from the games industry, the institute soon became a national hotspot and think tank for the future of gaming.

CICS – Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences

Offering five different specializations, the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences pursues a project-oriented teaching approach. Putting theory into practice, students have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge directly to cultural heritage objects. Conducting a number of project activities, the CICS also focuses on scientific research and the conservation of art and cultural heritage. Countless national and international collaborations include ventures in Cambodia and Egypt as well as with the Duchess Anna Amalia Library and the Cranach Digital Archive.

KISD – Köln International School of Design

Degree programs at Köln International School of Design are by no means average. Teaching methods at KISD are based on the Cologne Model of Design Education. Pursuing a comprehensive approach, students are involved in different projects from day one. These projects cover a number of areas of expertise and may extend beyond a single semester. The new Master’s program in European Design has an international focus and is a joint project with partner universities in Milan, Stockholm, Helsinki, Paris and Glasgow.
