In order to ensure the utilization of the engineering schools, the model "University of Technology and Economics" was realized for the first time in Baden-Württemberg with the establishment of the degree course in production management (Heilbronn) in 1969.

The resulting Faculty of Business and Transport has decisively shaped the development of Heilbronn University over the past 40 years. The faculty is committed to the 40-year tradition of business management courses. A central goal of the Faculty of Business and Transport is and remains to prepare students excellently for the changing and increasingly difficult requirements of the labor market. The Faculty of Economics and Transport attaches great importance to a more in-depth business qualification, which enables students to work in a variety of industries and functions.

With the introduction of the study system graded with bachelor's and master's degrees as part of the Bologna process, the curricula of the diploma courses in the Faculty of Economics and Transport were fundamentally revised, the course content further sharpened and adapted to the labor market requirements. In addition, the faculty took advantage of Bologna's opportunity to position itself in the master's degree and in 2006 set up the three-semester master's programs in Management and Management (MU) and Business Administration in Transport and Logistics (MTL).

Today, modernized study and examination regulations as well as admission regulations are in force in all degree programs, which take up the experience gained in order to improve the quality of training and ensure that it can be studied.

The active involvement of the students not only in teaching but also in the faculty activities through the assumption of committee functions or the engagement in student initiatives such as IBU (Initiative Group for Business Management and Management eV) and HGT (University Group Transport Economics eV) are at the Faculty for Economy and transport are traditional and natural.
