Friedrich–Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg
When the Faculty of Engineering was founded in 1966, the FAU became the first German university to combine the offer of a classic full university with that of a technical university. Since then, the Faculty of Engineering has earned an outstanding national and international reputation. This can also be seen in the number of students: since the 2013/14 winter semester, it has employed more than 10,000 students at FAU. The faculty consists of five departments: chemical and bioengineering, electrical engineering - electronics - information technology, computer science, mechanical engineering and materials science. Their headquarters are on the southern site in Erlangen with further locations in Nuremberg and Fürth.
More details about Faculty of Engineering:
The Faculty of Engineering works on the basics as well as on topics relevant to the market and technology. Her research focuses on the areas of new materials and processes, life science engineering and medical technology, modeling and simulation, energy technology and mobility, optical technologies, information and communication technology, and micro and nanotechnology. They are characterized by an interdisciplinary dialogue between the subjects and institutions. Examples of outstanding projects at the Faculty of Engineering are the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials and the Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies.
The Faculty of Engineering currently offers more than 20 Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. In addition to the five classic courses in chemical and bioengineering, electrical engineering - electronics - information technology, computer science, mechanical engineering and materials science, as well as materials engineering, there are a large number of interdisciplinary courses, such as nanotechnology or life science engineering. These courses of study have a lively exchange with the natural sciences, law, economics and the medical faculty.
