The Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences (MIN) comprises the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.

Around 8,500 students, including 1,000 doctoral students and 1,800 teaching degree students, are trained and supervised by around 200 professors and around 370 academic staff.

The MIN faculty has positioned itself excellently in the areas of research and teaching in recent years.

Two federal clusters of excellence and third-party funding amounting to EUR 47.5 million in 2012 reflect the growing together of the faculty and enable a combination of basic research and interdisciplinary analysis of socially relevant issues in cooperation with non-university research institutions. In order to make the university competitive in the scientific, international environment, research centers were founded from the federal clusters of excellence.

The MIN faculty makes its contribution to eliminating the shortage of MINT skilled workers with fully loaded bachelor courses. The faculty's degree programs are subject to continuous reform measures. Together with the students, significant, trend-setting university improvements have already been achieved: more personal responsibility in structuring studies, the abolition of deadlines and more flexibility and freedom of choice in subject combinations.

The MIN faculty has taken a common path - and the stages covered show our potential. We would like the current discussions about the structural developments and framework conditions of the university to be conducted primarily under the aspect of the quality of research and teaching.  This can only strengthen the university and with it the MIN faculty.
