Fakultät für Medizin (Universität Regensburg)

Regensburg University

The Faculty of Medicine refines its scientific focus. The focus is now on immunotherapy, tumor research and transplant medicine.

More details about Faculty of Medicine:

Immunotherapy

On the one hand, the main focus is on translational, immunologically oriented research. This means that therapeutic options should be developed for practical application in everyday clinical practice. On the other hand, immune-related forms of therapy and immune regulation form a central field of research. The related cellular and molecular processes as well as the central role of the immune system in defined diseases are analyzed here. The new focus extends to all important areas of modern immunological research and includes, among other things, the transplantation of donor organs and implants, inadequate, misdirected or excessive immune responses and immune insufficiencies, malignant diseases of the blood and other organs as well as infectious diseases.

Tumor research

The focus here is on both basic and disease and patient-oriented tumor research, including the analysis of tumor development, the identification of prognostic factors and tumor markers, and the development of new therapeutic strategies. These are supplemented by application-oriented clinical and clinical-experimental activities. The basis for this is provided by the methods already used at the faculty in the areas of genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, lipidomics and metabolomics.

Transplant medicine

A third focus, which is strongly defined clinically, but also clinically and scientifically, concerns the area of transplant medicine. Organ (kidney, heart, liver, pancreas) and bone marrow transplants are carried out at the UKR. In recent years the transplant center in Regensburg has developed into one of the leading centers in Bavaria and has developed a national profile. Through targeted research, transplant medicine is to be continuously developed and thus the quality of life as well as the chances of survival of those affected are increased.
