Knowledge - research - healing through networked competence:
The UKE.

In one of the most modern clinics in Europe, specialists from a wide variety of disciplines work together under one roof. The latest medical technology, innovative information technology and an architecture oriented towards the supply process support doctors, nurses and therapists. This creates ideal conditions for close networking between cutting-edge medicine, research and teaching. More than 10,000 employees work around the clock for health - for the benefit of our patients.

More details about Faculty of Medicine:

The UKE

The University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) has been one of the leading hospitals in Europe since it was founded in 1889. By networking medicine, research and teaching, all employees of the UKE work hand in hand for a common goal - the health and well-being of our patients. We research for them. We teach for them. We are constantly learning for them.

With more than 10,000 employees, the UKE is the third largest employer in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Around 2,600 of them are medical professionals and researchers, and more than 3,200 nursing staff and therapists. Together with its University Heart Center Hamburg and the Martini-Klinik, the UKE has more than 1,720 beds.

Research in the UKE

Research is an important prerequisite for advances in diagnostics and therapy. The main research areas of the UKE include neurosciences, cardiovascular research, health services research, oncology, and infections and inflammations. Further potential areas of the UKE are molecular imaging and skeletal biology research.

Teaching at the UKE

The UKE trains around 3,800 doctors and dentists. In the performance tests, some of our students do significantly better than the average in Germany. We are praised nationwide for our modern form of training, in which theory and practice are networked better and earlier and in which contemporary elements such as digital textbooks or computer-based simulation programs are used. The model course iMED Hamburg, launched in 2012, already meets the criteria set by the Science Council for the further development of medical studies in Germany.
