Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology Universität des Saarlandes
Naturwissenschaftlich-Technische Fakultät (NT) (Universität des Saarlandes (Saarbrücken, Homburg))
The NT faculty - Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology - is divided into the six disciplines of biosciences, chemistry, materials science and engineering, pharmacy, physics and systems engineering.
More details about Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology:
There are currently 72 professors teaching and researching at our faculty, four of whom are junior professors.
There are also four senior professors, three adjunct professors and seven honorary professors.
In addition, 12 professors are co-opted at our faculty.
The profile of our faculty is essentially characterized by expertise in important future fields such as natural substance and nanochemistry, nanotechnology/biotechnology, biomedicine, development and research of new medical substances and drug delivery systems, catalysis, materials research, sensor/actuator systems and bioinformatics.
Our faculty thus makes important contributions to two main areas of Saarland University: nano-biological sciences and (bio)informatics.
Our faculty is characterized by interdisciplinary cooperation in research and teaching. Not only do the various disciplines work closely together, but there is also intensive cooperation with medicine and IT.
The life sciences are also significantly involved in the teaching and research projects of the two interfaculty centers of the UdS: the Center for Human and Molecular Biology (ZHMB) and the Center for Bioinformatics (ZBI). A new interfaculty center is the Center for Biophysics (ZBP), in which the departments of physics and life sciences are involved.
We work closely with the following non-university research institutions on the Saarbrücken campus and in St. Ingbert:
- Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBMT)
- Fraunhofer Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (IZFP)
- Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS)
- Korea Institute of Science and Technology in Europe (KIST)
- Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM)
- Steinbeis Research Center Material Engineering Center Saarland (MECS)
A particular concern of all disciplines is to introduce the students to the scientific work and research projects of the chairs at an early stage. A large number of study and doctoral theses are created together with the above-mentioned non-university research institutions, but also with companies that are located in the immediate vicinity on the campus in the Science Park Saar.
Our faculty is also involved with several laboratories in the Saarland association of student experiment laboratories SaarLab. This has the scientific and technical broad promotion of students as well as teacher training as its tasks.
