Broad spectrum
The Faculty of Philology offers a very wide range: In English studies it also offers North American studies and post-colonial literatures and cultures, in Romance studies a variety of Romansh-influenced European cultural areas up to Central and South America, in Scandinavian studies also the north Europe and in Slavic studies the large area of Eastern European cultures. In addition, there is the German seminar with the three focal points of literature, language and medieval cultures. The historical role of Greek and Latin is explored and taught in the Seminar for Greek and Latin Philology. The spectrum is supplemented by a linguistic seminar and - recently founded - the interdisciplinary institute for media culture studies. The subjects of the Philological Faculty are optimally networked with each other and also interdisciplinary. They work in joint research projects around the world and offer interesting study programs also for foreign students.
