Through a broad interdisciplinary education during their studies, biophysicists have learned to think outside the box of individual disciplines. The fields of activity of biophysicists are extraordinarily broad in line with the diversity of science. Except for activities that are more closely related to the subject, e.g. B. in research and teaching at universities, research at state institutes or in industry, biophysicists* also work in medicine, e.g. in the development of new diagnostic or therapeutic options, in biotechnology or environmental analysis. Activities in public relations, journalism or patents are also possible. Thanks to their broad training, biophysicists can make a well-founded judgment about the consequences and social compatibility of scientific innovations in all of these activities.

The job market for biophysicists has been looking very good for many years and is comparable to that for chemistry or physics graduates.

Internships are an integral part of the curriculum in the bachelor’s degree in biophysics. You will complete a beginner internship in physics, internships in organic and physical chemistry, and an internship in biophysics. There are also other internship opportunities in elective subjects. These internships deepen the knowledge acquired in lectures and introduce you to the independent research work that is carried out in the bachelor thesis.

Учебный план программы обучения "Biophysics"

In the bachelor's program (6 semesters) there is a solid basic education in physics, chemistry and biology with subjects such as experimental physics, theoretical physics, physical chemistry, general, inorganic and organic chemistry, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics and of course biophysics. These basic subjects are rounded off by lectures, seminars and internships in biophysics. Contact with current research in biophysics occurs as early as the bachelor thesis in the 6th semester (duration 3 months).

In the fourth semester, the block seminar on biophysics takes place as a summer school in the Bergkranz building at Goethe University in the Alps. The aim of this seminar is the introduction to research-oriented learning processes, i.e. the independent familiarization with a topic from a biophysical research area, which is presented in a presentation and then discussed. The students should learn to follow the development of knowledge critically and competently. The academic program is accompanied by a wide range of leisure activities in the mountains.

    Институт использует широкий спектр методов изучения структуры и динамики биомолекул. Для исследования динамических процессов в макромолекулах и белковых комплексах используются различные спектроскопические методы. Исследованы белковая складчатость и ионный перенос, дальнейшее применение спектроскопии в аналитических целях. Кроме того, структура макромолекулярных комплексов исследуется криоэлектронной томографией. Наши основные исследовательские проекты тесно связаны с другими исследовательскими группами в Университете Гёте. Институт сотрудничает с группами по химии, биохимии, биологии, фармацевтической технологии и медицине, а также с Институтом биофизики им. Макса Планка в рамках различных совместных исследовательских центров и исследовательских центров. Совместно с университетскими клиниками проводятся научно-исследовательские проекты, ориентированные на медицину.
