Учебный план программы обучения "British and American Studies"

The master's program (120 credit points) deepens the skills and knowledge acquired in the bachelor's degree and serves to form a focus on content. The master's degree in British and American Studies concludes with a Master of Arts (MA).

It is the declared goal of the research-oriented Master of British and American Studies degree program to enable students to independently and academically deal with the languages, literatures and cultures of the Anglophone world in the past and present. A thematic focus of the course is on the processes of contact between cultures in its various linguistic and medial manifestations. Another focus concerns the interactions between socio-cultural and political contexts on the one hand and literary texts and media manifestations on the other hand, which are examined from a historical perspective from the pre-modern period.

In a basic module, the basics of language, literature and cultural theory are first worked out and thus concepts, models and methods for further scientific work with the subjects of the course are conveyed. An interdisciplinary course design is already possible here, for example by integrating content from linguistics or history into the course of the course.

In addition, in this study phase, phenomena of linguistic, literary and media culture contact as well as the text-context reference are treated as examples. In the main modules, which have either a linguistic, an English or American-oriented literary and cultural studies or a media studies orientation, knowledge in the areas of cultural contact and cultural transfer as well as text and context is expanded, which improves the ability to analyze complex cultural phenomena. Forms of expression from different historical epochs, in different textual and audiovisual media as well as from different geographical regions of the anglophone world are examined. Research seminars and colloquia enable students to always connect their questions and methods to current research activities when writing their master's thesis. All courses are held exclusively in English.
