Budding business mathematicians complete a degree in mathematics with an integrated university education in economics and computer science. During your studies you learn to use your mathematical knowledge in economic contexts with the help of the most modern information technology. As graduates, they are valued in the insurance and finance industry, in industry and in public administration for their ability to abstract and their security in logical thinking. With their ability to understand economic problems and to model them mathematically and to make complex relationships quantitatively assessable with the help of IT technology, they make a substantial contribution to the economic success of their employers.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Business Mathematics"

As a business mathematician at the University of Bayreuth, you are well prepared for your career entry at banks and insurance companies, in industry and with authorities: both because of your specialist skills and because of the key qualifications you acquired during your mathematics studies. These are in particular the ability to abstract, precision, problem-solving skills, interdisciplinary thinking, the ability to work in a team and, last but not least, the ability to clearly structure complex relationships. Of course, you can continue your scientific education in the master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Bayreuth. In two years you will acquire the internationally recognized Master of Science degree.

In the Bachelor's degree at the University of Bayreuth, you study the methods and structure of mathematics from scratch - just like in a mathematics degree. You will also get to know some basics of computer science and self-selected areas of economics. Later in your studies, you will deepen your mathematical skills according to your own ideas - in more application-oriented subjects such as optimization or statistics, or in more basic-oriented subjects such as analysis, algebra or geometry.

In economics, which - depending on your choice - make up 15 to 20 percent of the degree, you will familiarize yourself with the basics of economics and business administration. You will also get to know further questions, e.g.  supply chain management, finance or investment management, or game theory and monetary policy.

Computer science, which in Bayreuth - also depending on your choice - has a 15 to 20 percent share in the bachelor's degree in business mathematics, is about algorithms, data structures, databases and the associated programming.

In math, you will first focus on calculus and linear algebra. Based on this, you will deal with mathematical areas that are particularly relevant for applications in business and economics. These include  Stochastics, Statistics, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Optimization and Numerical Mathematics. A freely selectable in-depth lecture, a seminar with your own lecture and the bachelor thesis give you the opportunity to really go deeper into your favorite area.
