In the diploma course in Business Mathematics, you will acquire comprehensive basic mathematical and economic knowledge in the basic course, which is supplemented by modules from computer science. The study of business mathematics prepares you for a job as a mathematician in industry, in commercial economy, in the public sector or in banks and insurance companies.
Your central professional challenges usually include the creation of mathematical models and the use of mathematical processes to develop decision-making aids and control strategies for economic processes. You can e.g. B. take on the following tasks:
- Financial Strategies
- Risk management
- Process Optimization
- Logistics
- Quality Management / Controlling
- Statistical evaluations and forecasts
- Research

In addition, during a semester break, you can complete a six-week internship at a scientific institution or in a company in order to find initial points of reference for later professional use (optional).
Учебный план программы обучения "Business Mathematics"
In addition to the acquisition of knowledge, the course includes the acquisition of skills in mathematical modeling and the implementation using computer technology through to the interpretation of the results as a basis for decisions in management. The economics education takes place in business administration or in economics.
The study objective is that all graduates
- have a solid knowledge of mathematics and economics
- be able to apply mathematical methods to business issues
- be able to independently gain new insights into the application of mathematical processes in business
In the basic course, the basic mathematical and economic knowledge required for the specialization is taught. The mathematical courses are supplemented by accompanying exercises and the successful completion of the courses is confirmed by exercise certificates.
The basic course includes (four semesters)
- Basic courses in mathematics
- Basic Courses in Economics
- Basics of Computer Science
In the main study, further courses for general mathematical and economic education as well as further special lectures are offered, which you can choose to take according to the examination regulations. This allows you to influence the specific content of the specialization phase of your studies. In the main course, a computer internship is integrated into the computer science course. The Numerical Mathematics course includes the practical implementation of numerical methods. A study-related internship must be completed. In this internship you should be able to analyze a specific problem, implement it as a model and work on it with the existing industry software.

- advanced courses in economics
- freely selectable specialization
- freely selectable computer science lectures and an internship
Computer science is an essential part of the training both in the basic and in the main study.

Leipzig UniversityThe Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science comprises the Institute of Computer Science and the Institute of Mathematics. The Institute of Computer Science developed out of the Computer Science department founded in 1989, and was completely rebuilt when the university was restructured at the start of the 1990s. The Mathematics Institute has a tradition of mathematical research stretching back over 125 years, and developed from the Mathematics Seminar founded by Felix Klein in 1881.
