Information technology is still said to have enormous future potential, which is characterized by constant innovations and ever shorter development cycles. As a result, a need for skilled workers is generated that can be described as almost resistant to the economic cycle. According to the Bitkom industry association, the shortage of IT specialists has currently reached a new high. Specialists in Germany are sought across all sectors.

The field of activity of a computer scientist with an academic degree is so diverse that it is difficult to summarize in individual job titles. It ranges from the conception and support of network components or data centers through database management to the programming of central software solutions or the development of apps on mobile devices. Today, computer scientists must be able to exchange information intensively with the departments in companies or with customers. Here it is important to acquire an understanding of process technology and to transfer abstract requirements into technical solutions. Therefore, in addition to technical subjects, methodical and personality-building skills are also at the center of the course orientation. Abstraction models, communication and interaction processes are embedded in many courses. Newer work processes such as "Agile Work" or "Scrum Project Management" transfer these aspects into a modern learning and working environment.

The course of study is identical for all three types of study: full-time 6, full-time with practical semester 7, dual work-integrated 6 semesters. In full-time studies, the practice transfer projects in the company are replaced by study transfer projects that are carried out at the university. In the seven-semester course, a practical semester worth 30 CP is inserted between the fifth and sixth semester. Otherwise, the students of all three types of study attend the same courses together.

In the first half of the course, all the necessary foundations are laid that you need for the course and later professional activity. It begins with a well-founded overview of modern computer, communication and software systems and with the necessary theoretical content from mathematics, logic and scientific work. At the same time, practical procedures are practiced from the very first semester in order to be able to develop and test IT solutions independently.
In the second half of the course, knowledge is deepened in order to be able to analyze more complex problems and design alternative solutions. System technology concepts or software-based applications are developed individually or in a team. You will learn how to structure IT requirements and how to design and implement solution scenarios. Dedicated conception, technical feasibility and security risks are the subject of controversial discussion and review.
In addition to the classic content, the course provides insights into new areas of technology such as machine learning/artificial intelligence, big data analytics or cloud computing.
