The course "Cultural Studies" conveys in-depth scientific knowledge in the theoretical and historically material handling of culture and aesthetics. This includes substantive, historical, methodical and practical competences that enable a professional activity in the areas of education, cultural and artistic production, public relations, editorial, consulting or in science. The goal of the study is the acquisition of a deep and specialized competence in the historically material-oriented handling of cultural phenomena as well as the research-based mediation of theories and methods of cultural studies and cultural history. Decisive part of the master's program is the independent scientific work. The master program Cultural Studies promotes the internationality of the study, since modules and module components can be completed abroad. For a stay abroad at one of the partner universities, the 2nd to 4th semester is particularly suitable.
Prior to the stay abroad, a "Learning Agreement" will be concluded. Recognition of study abroad is based on the certificate of the partner institution on which it was provided. Preparatory language courses can be credited in the general elective area.
Учебный план программы обучения "Cultural Studies"
The focus is firstly on the history, mediality, aesthetics and materiality of culturally produced and traditional knowledge, secondly on the historiography and theory of cultural techniques - such as writing, reading, representing, networking, arithmetic, measuring, playing, performing, creating, exchanging and remembering - and third, the observation and reconstruction of culture-constitutive processes through media, social and cultural theories.
The students learn the analytical handling of cultural artefacts on the basis of exemplary historical and current objects, be it texts (from advertisements to theory tracts), pictures (from cave painting to digital image), sound documents, technical apparatus, cult ritual practices or normalized operations actions. The Master of Cultural Studies starts from the contents and methods of the bachelor program "Cultural Studies", while at the same time continuing the tradition of cultural studies in Berlin and, in particular, opening up the possibility of dealing with interdisciplinary issues. Particular attention is paid to the promotion of independent, critical, problem-oriented, innovative and cooperative action.

Humboldt University of BerlinThe faculty includes nine institutes and the Center for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies. It has a multidisciplinary orientation and integrates cultural, social and educational perspectives.
In teaching, the KSBF has a wide range of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs and is involved in several cooperative and international degree programs. KSBF is actively involved in the training of teachers. The faculty is characterized by close cooperative relations with the leading non-university humanities and social science research institutions in the Berlin area as well as with national and international partner institutions.
