Описание программы обучения "Data Science"

This program imparts basic specialist knowledge in dealing with large amounts of data, with the aim of using scientific knowledge to develop methods and solve problems in relevant application fields.

In the first year, students learn the necessary fundamentals in mathematics, probability, statistics, and programming. This is followed in the second and third years by special lectures on the presentation, processing, and evaluation of data as well as on computer-aided statistics and statistical learning. In mandatory elective courses and case studies, students learn early on to make connections between academic knowledge and relevant practical problems.

Graduates of the Faculty of Statistics work primarily in medical and pharmaceutical research, in banking and insurance, or in marketing and quality control for both large and small companies. Other popular areas of work include management consulting, software development, and market and opinion research. Unemployment is practically unknown among our graduates.

The possible uses of statistics are constantly expanding, and compared to the situation in Great Britain or the United States, where there are dozens of statistics departments and tens of thousands of trained statisticians, the potential for employment in Germany is far from exhausted. Especially for experts in data science, huge areas of activity are opening up due to the constant increase in the amount of data in all areas of business, science, and everyday life.
