Программа обучения Digital Media Production

Программа обучения "Digital Media Production" в University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven

Digitale Medienproduktion

Digital Media Production (DMP) is an interdisciplinary course at the interface between media design, media informatics and media planning. DMP relies on an interdisciplinary profile with a training focus on the interlinking of the disciplines, i.e. the conception, design and development of multimedia systems. The design and IT components of the course are not understood as isolated modules from different disciplines, but are mutually dependent and build on one another. DMP is application and practice-oriented. Due to its multidisciplinary approach, the course takes into account methods and tools from both media design and media informatics. In addition, aspects of media production that deal with the conception, planning, budgeting and marketing of applications are taken into account.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Digital Media Production"

The professional fields for future graduates of digital media production are diverse. Students who decide to specialize in Audiovisual Media have good chances in the field of film, television and Internet TV (including on-air and 3D design). A strength of graduates of the DMP course is the interface competence for design and the knowledge of cross-media design issues. Audiovisual skills are also increasingly in demand within agencies, which often make the decisive difference to competitors in the area of promotion or pitches. A special branch within the production and design landscape is application design, i.e. the design and programming of digital applications that have a special focus on usability and user experience. Graduates from DMP have good qualifications because they are familiar with programming as well as prototype development, interface design and animation / visualization. Alumni also have the knowledge they need for the game design market. Another large market are communication and development departments in medium-sized companies and industry.

Areas of activity

Possible areas of activity are:

  • Development and design of digital media systems for imparting knowledge
  • Development of interactive multimedia applications in the cultural sector
  • Conception and implementation of cross-media publications
  • Corporate design development
  • Conception and development of audiovisual media
  • Development of digital media for leisure and entertainment
  • Development and design of communication concepts
  • Communication applications in the field of marketing and public relations
  • Usability engineering, training and consulting
  • Mobile applications

One graduate who stayed loyal to Bremerhaven after completing her studies in digital media production is Joanna Meyer. How she experienced her studies, what motivated her to do so and how she got out of her studies in her job, she reports in an interview production by nowi.tv.

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Digital Media Production"

The starting point of the course concept is the analysis of a highly dynamic job market in the field of technology-based design and media professions in the context of a permanently changing society. In agencies and companies, technological knowledge and the mastery of new media design tools are a decisive competitive factor in practice. This requires employees who, on the one hand, have the necessary up-to-date skills and, on the other hand, have learned the ability to permanently develop knowledge that has been acquired. In addition, they should be able to reflect on their tasks in the context of social and technological development. The three central training goals have already been named: imparting current design and technical knowledge, applying this knowledge in practical projects and, thirdly, the ability to further develop one's own knowledge and skills.

The teaching promotes an interdisciplinary and multifaceted examination of the media fields of application. The student work is project-oriented and takes place in laboratories. It is accompanied by lectures and seminars which, among other things, convey the theoretical basics of media production and reception.

At the technical level, the students acquire in-depth knowledge of media design and development (with a focus on audiovisual media or cross-media publishing). Specific parts of media informatics and basic knowledge from the areas of media management and media theory complement this knowledge. The systematic development of the respective specialist skills and their interaction is therefore a necessary condition for the development of an overview competence in the professional field of media production.

Through the imparting of interdisciplinary qualifications and the high practical relevance with practical semester and project work, the students are put in a position to identify specific problems in the professional environment and to develop problem solutions. You can lead teams and take responsibility for teamwork.

At the level of key competencies, students should develop communication skills and be enabled to critically assess and question the processes for producing media, the use of media and the products themselves. Ethical and moral questions when working with image media and questions about copyright are particularly important here.

Международный обмен по программе обучения "Digital Media Production"

Optionally, instead of the practical semester, students can take a theoretical semester abroad. The semester abroad serves personal development and intercultural learning in a foreign social and cultural educational environment. The students choose courses from the spectrum of media design or media informatics or a free elective area according to the courses offered by the foreign partner universities.

The students' stays abroad are made possible, among other things, by cooperation between the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and foreign partner universities in Ireland, Spain, Finland or the Netherlands.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Digital Media Production"

The practice and application orientation is a central component of the DMP course. The module structure provides for integrated exercise and practical units for almost every event. This encourages students to learn, develop and design independently at an early stage. In the third and fourth semesters, the one-year media project offers students very good opportunities to gain their own experience with complex media productions under practical conditions. The project has a lasting effect on one's own professional field orientation. Well-equipped facilities in the form of the multimedia laboratory and the video laboratory are available for practical exercises and project work. In the practical semester, the students are put in a position to compare and theoretically reflect on the practical work experience gained there with the knowledge acquired during their studies. They get an insight into everyday working life, make contact with the later professional world and develop a specific professional perspective.

Учебный план программы обучения "Digital Media Production"

The standard period of study is three and a half academic years or seven semesters. This includes, among other things, a practical semester (optionally a semester abroad), a two-semester media project and the bachelor thesis with the associated graduate seminar and colloquium.

In the design area, modules or courses are offered in the first year of study that systematically deal with the teaching of the basics and the methods of design: "Form and color", "Design methods and tools" and "Font and layout". There are also two modules that introduce moving image design: “Audiovisual media” and “3D animation”. In the field of media informatics, the "Multimedia Technology" and "Programming" courses give fundamental insights into compression formats and technologies and object-oriented programming languages. "Media Engineering", "Business Administration" and "Marketing" are courses that are intended to introduce the field of media management.

The interdisciplinary approach of the DMP curriculum becomes particularly clear in the second year of study, in which, in addition to the media project (with parts of media conception, media design and media informatics), two modules that build on one another are offered, which are also project-oriented: "Design interactive systems 1 and 2 ". In contrast to the more open approach of the media project, however, the teaching content in these interdisciplinary modules is largely predetermined. The different disciplines of the modules enable the development process of digital media to be illuminated from different perspectives: Interaction design or interface design on the one hand, the fundamentals of usable design of interactive systems and human-machine interfaces on the other. In practice, it is about the process-based development of interactive multimedia applications from conception to design, evaluation, prototyping and usability tests to implementation.

From the third semester onwards, students also have the opportunity to define their own focus areas of their studies. This not only applies to the choice of media project, but also to deepening in the field of media design, later also in media informatics. The students choose two courses in each of the specialization modules from a changing range. In the two design modules, this specialization can be summarized for the students under two possible subject areas: "Cross-media publishing" (editorial design, corporate design, concept design etc.) and "Audiovisual media" (2D animation, motion design, specialization in animation, sound Design etc.). In the compulsory elective module “Media Informatics”, students can take courses which, in terms of their informatics components, are based on the double module “Design of interactive systems”: game development, eLearning, physical computing or similar.
