Only through a very personal, artistic vision do good directors bring their stories to life in front of the camera. In the special field of directing, it is important to recognize this specific talent, to further develop it and to express it in an individual artistic handwriting. Along the way, the students learn to design and coordinate all aspects of the staging: from script to drama, image and sound design, scenery and montage to music and visual effects - in practical exercises and in project work with the students of others professional priorities. Parallel to the work on the fictional film, the students deal with the documentary narrative and thus with the entire field of tension between fiction and reality and the wide range of related aesthetic forms of expression. It is also about dealing with social contexts. In addition to learning about craftsmanship and competencies, this way creates an understanding of the art and interaction of the trades involved - in order to be able to confidently assume responsibility for a team in the future.

A film director works like a conductor - he combines the artistic achievements of many people into a symphony. He brings the screenplay to life with pictures, sounds and stagings. A director must therefore be able to make his interpretation of the script understandable to his staff. A film can only be as good as the director manages to convey his ideas to the stage designer, the actor, the cameraman, the cutter and many other participants. He is subject to financial conditions, but this should not prevent him to develop an individual, artistic signature. His handling of actors, light, colors, music, camera perspectives and rhythm characterize his style and, apart from the choice of specific topics, lead him to his identity as a film director. In addition to the artistic-shaping power and the ability to perceive, which should characterize a director, the directing activity includes a number of organizational tasks. Shooting needs to be carefully prepared. A director penetrates the material to be processed with a comprehensive research. He is involved in the production planning in cooperation with the producer and the technical-creative team. In the filming phase, the director is required as a leading figure for the entire artistic, technical and organizational team. He must be able to effectively inform, motivate and decide. He bears the bulk of the artistic and also a part of the production-technical responsibility. In addition to the talent, a high degree of initiative is required.
