Программа обучения Direction for Cinema and Television Films / Focus on Montage

Программа обучения "Direction for Cinema and Television Films / Focus on Montage" в University of Television and Film Munich

Regie für Kino- und Fernsehfilm / Schwerpunkt Montage

Robert Bresson's famous sentence about the essence of film is for us both a leitmotif for the formation and definition of our self-image. We understand ourselves in the great tradition of European cinema, which is not about a firework of special effects, but about storytelling with pictures. The narrative, the storytelling as an ancient cultural technique, to make people's actions and their world understandable, finds its current form in fictional cinema and television films.

We want to train young people who want to tell something: about idiosyncratic people, about big and quiet feelings, about big and small worlds, money, love, power and politics, and about themselves.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Direction for Cinema and Television Films / Focus on Montage"

The course in Department III is based on three different, interrelated elements:

- Practical and theoretical courses / workshops, seminars
- (Practice) films that every student has to make in the course of their studies
- Individual support and advice for students and their projects

The theoretical and practical courses such as seminars and workshops are held by permanent teachers and well-known practitioners from Germany and abroad.
The permanent lecturers include Prof. Andrzej Mellin from the Film Academy Lodz / Poland, Jo Heim, cameraman from Munich, and Miroslav Mandic from the Film Academy Ljubljana.

We have set up a comprehensive support system for brainstorming, developing material and scriptwriting. The students are individually supervised by both lecturers and tutors in the development of their scripts, which they have to realize in the course of their studies at the university.

In the course of their training, each student has to produce a catalog of films. We attach great importance to continuous support and advice for student productions in all phases of development: script development, direction concept, production preparation, shooting and post-production.
The graduation films in Department III are often made with co-production partners from the film industry, with the support of television broadcasters and / or the Bavarian FilmFernsehFond.

In order to give the students the most comprehensive possible impression of current international cinema production, but also historical examples of filmmaking, different perspectives and modes of reception are discussed in the university's own cinemas as part of the course “Various Talking About Film”.

Учебный план программы обучения "Direction for Cinema and Television Films / Focus on Montage"

Our training goal in Department III - with specific job descriptions - is feature film directing for cinema and television films. So it is about the implementation of fictional narrative, the staging of stories with actors and camera in large and small, hopefully always precise images.

In the first four semesters of the basic course, basic knowledge in all essential design areas of film work is imparted. During this time, the talents and interests of students should be discovered, addressed and promoted. In addition to the general curriculum, additional courses for students of the faculty are already offered in the basic course.

The basic course is also to be understood as an orientation aid for the specialization in the main course.

The main course, the second stage of study after the intermediate diploma in department III, concentrates on the basic knowledge from the first stage of study on the special training and deepening in the field of scenic directing for fictional storytelling in cinema and television.

    Faculty general
University of Television and Film Munich

Among our HFF Munich faculty, both at the professor and instructor level, we can distinguish two forms of affiliation: Some faculty members have tenure at HFF Munich, while others maintain their main engagement in the film and television industry. This ensures that our students have a permanent primary contact, for the duration of their studies; while, on the other hand, our teaching content remains at the cutting edge of industry practice.
This principle is most evident at the senior level of each HFF Munich department: All five departments with full degree programs have a full-time and a part-time head. Our part-time department heads are actively involved in the industry, providing an interface between HFF Munich and industry practice – a significant advantage to our students, benefitting not only what they currently learn in the classroom, but also their later careers. Our part-time department heads include such major industry names as Franz Kraus (Cinematography), Stefan Arndt (Feature Film and Television) and Herbert Kloiber (Production and Media Business).
