Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Film: Editing Bild & Ton"

The editor in picture & sound is responsible for the entire post-production process up to the completion of an audio-visual work in cooperation with the direction and production.

The job requires a high degree of empathy and specialist knowledge.

A critical distance from the script and staging is also necessary, because the audiovisual concept can only be checked and experienced in the cutting room.

The editor must be able to judge the effect of scenes from the first cut version (here fundamental decisions are made with regard to the dramaturgy and narrative form) to the fine cut (marginal changes such as lengthening or shortening a sequence, which change the tempo, rhythm and timing of the film are finally worked out). The selection of music and sound sequences parallel to the picture is also one of the tasks.

The professional fields in the field of film sound include, among other things, the original sound recording on the set as well as the subsequent recording of speech and noises and their processing. The creation of spatiality and intensity by means of consciously and unconsciously perceived sound signals is used in sound design, where dialogue, atmosphere, sound effects and music are used as dramaturgical elements, processed and finally brought together in a main mix. Digital systems for image and sound processing are constantly changing and require editors and sound designers to continue their education.

Study Editing Image & amp; Sound
The students of the Editing Image & amp; Sound are perceived as creative filmmakers and play a crucial role in creating a narrative. They are the partners of the directors and producers in the editing room and discover and develop the narrative dramaturgy there, in both feature films and documentaries. They also take on their role as competent contact persons in the preparation of a film project.

In the specialist area Editing Image & amp; Sound, the students are prepared for the professional fields of e.g. editors, sound designers and contributors to post-production - through experimentation and research, but also through experiencing the filmic process and storytelling in a team. In the course of the three and a half years you will receive an introduction to the theoretical and practical basics of image editing and sound design and deepen them in seminars and exercises. By working in the in-house edit suites, the voice and sound recording studio and the Dolby Atmos licensed mixing studio, they also acquire professional software skills (e.g. Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, Adobe After Effects). In the project work, the students are responsible to their team for the final image and sound design. They gain insights into non-linear narrative forms in various media (e.g. games, theater) and are always encouraged to further develop their technical and dramaturgical skills. Teaching methods involve, among other things, individual and collective advisory units via video conference as well as, in the future, virtual editing rooms that allow two or more parties to work together on a project, thus taking into account the latest industry developments and innovations.

In the first year the basics of film production, image and sound design, dramaturgy and montage theory are taught and made usable for one's own work. The students are enabled to plan a simple post-production workflow and apply their knowledge in a joint studio exercise with the students of the other trades.

In the second year , the skills acquired are expanded and consolidated in the context of scenic and documentary exercises. The students take over the image editing and sound design of longer narrative arcs, sharpen their analytical skills and their artistic eye. The use of subject-specific software is becoming more professional and the students begin to develop their own "signature" and to become aware of their ethical responsibility as co-authors.

From the third year on, in preparation for the final project, the students are enabled to take on the editing and sound design of a medium to long film under professional conditions; In doing so, they reflect on their own role in the team and are capable of artistic and technical analysis of their strengths and weaknesses.

Comparative Media Studies
Teaching deals with the relationships between the medium of film and other media and their forms of presentation and narration, especially with the audiovisual competing media of theater, television and digital games, but also with the fine arts and photography, literature and music. In theoretical reflection as well as in practical exercises, special attention is paid to the aesthetic and cultural consequences of digitization for the production, distribution and reception of audiovisual as well as cross and transmedia content.

Film history and film analysis
The subject deals with the various dimensions and elements that touch, cross and mix in the film: space and time; Adjustment and assembly; Picture and sound; Light and color; On and off screen; Figure, camera and spectator looks. The focus is on the investigation of the media conditions of cinematic aesthetics as well as the reflection of their historical changeability.

Projects
An important part of teaching and studying takes place in project work, which is characterized by intensive cooperation between the 7 specialist areas. Each semester there is a project phase in which experiments, exercises and production take place. The requirements vary: there are fictional and non-fictional projects. The work on the projects consists of both individual parts and interdisciplinary teamwork with fellow students and other cooperation partners. The complexity of the project work increases in the course of the degree up to the final project. A professorial committee decides on the implementation of the respective projects. Parallel to the studies there is the possibility to realize free projects with the support of the ifs.

Key competencies and professional field orientation
In all semesters, the contents of the key competencies and professional field orientation are anchored. Personal and professional development are promoted through coaching discussions and feedback from the teachers on various academic achievements and team processes. The reflection of one's own artistic work takes place with an interdisciplinary perspective, in the context of other art forms and as part of the social discourse. The development of the artistic personality is specifically promoted. Social skills (negotiation, self-reflection, team cooperation, solution strategies) are trained and deepened. Case studies on job profiles (national / international) and knowledge of the requirements for starting a business serve as orientation for future professional fields. Visits to festivals and specialist conferences promote the formation of industry networks.

Bachelor theses and colloquia
The bachelor thesis is written at the end of the course and supplemented by an oral examination (colloquium). The bachelor thesis in the specialist areas of directing, creative production, camera, editing image & amp; Ton, VFX & amp; Animation and production design consist of a project work and a theoretical work. The colloquium brings the different parts of the bachelor thesis together in a technical discussion and deepens individual aspects.
