Описание программы обучения "German as a second language/foreign language"
German as a second language – DaZ in the context of migration and integration
Germany is one of the countries with the highest immigration rates, which means that integration processes in particular should be approached in a target group-oriented and language-sensitive manner. The need for concepts and measures to deal with cultural and linguistic diversity is therefore increasing: well-qualified language and cultural mediators and trained teachers are needed. Among other things, they should have access to the culture and society of the migrants' countries of origin and also be capable of conceptual work as well as coordination and management tasks. Possible activities in the area of DaZ include:
- Teaching at schools, in integration courses and in qualification measures for young people and adults (e.g. as part of BAMF literacy courses, professional language courses, etc.)
- Client-oriented moderation and consulting activities for transcultural communication
- Design and advice on tasks of transcultural communication and integration
- Training and further education for specialists in coordination and management tasks
- Creation of media and materials
- Language diagnostics, design and implementation of tests and examinations
- Activities at publishers and/or foundations
German as a foreign language – DaF
German has consolidated its position as a foreign language in many regions of the world, especially as a second and additional foreign language. The need is increasingly geared to the specific interests of the learners. In many countries there is therefore a need, particularly in the following fields of activity:
- Language teaching and cultural mediation at universities for students of all subjects
- Teaching assistants and editors abroad (e.g. DAAD, foundations)
- German as a technical language, e.g. law, economics, humanities, social sciences, medicine, engineering
- German as a professional language
- Teaching German as a foreign language and in German-language specialist teaching at schools abroad (local staff, program teachers)
- Coordination and advice on teaching activities
- Project work in cultural mediation institutions
- Creation of media and materials
- Creation and implementation of tests
- Publicatory activities

Networking of theory and practice
The MA DaZ/DaF offers a close network of theory and practice, which also extends to interdisciplinary study elements. This is evident, for example, in the integration of teaching and professional internships with seminars (Module 7 and Module 9) as well as in practice-oriented examinations such as "Project presentation with colloquium" (Module 6).
Empirical research
The course is designed in such a way that skills in academic work and research are systematically developed. To this end, the specialist parts of the course include discussions of current research topics and studies (Module 8). Current empirical research is present throughout the Master DaZ/DaF, with modules 1, 2, 8 and 11 placing a particular focus on empirical research and current studies. Students also complete their studies with an empirical master's thesis (module 11).
From the very beginning, scientific working techniques and research designs are therefore taught (e.g. in the seminars "Areas of work and methods in DaZ/DaF" or "Empirical research methods and designs").
Worldward with the binational Master's degree program DaF
In addition to the national MA DaZ/DaF, the PH Freiburg also offers the opportunity to study a binational MA DaF (German as a foreign language) with a double degree in cooperation with the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín/Colombia.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "German as a second language/foreign language"
The transfer of specialist knowledge into experiential/practical knowledge is a central area in the DaZ/DaF master's degree programs. The two compulsory internships of the course therefore promote subject-related, methodological, social and personal skills that contribute to the development of individual professional identity.
The following practical phases are a compulsory part of the course:
Day internship (in the 3rd semester, module 7)
The day internship takes place weekly in the winter semester during the entire lecture period (usually Wednesdays between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.). The internship is accompanied and supervised by lecturers. There is also an accompanying event every 14 days.
Block internship (between the 2nd and 3rd semesters, module M9)
5 weeks (approx. 8 hours/day, approx. 40 hours per week); can be completed at home or abroad (mandatory registration for admission by the head of the study programme or study programme coordinator)
Учебный план программы обучения "German as a second language/foreign language"
The concept of the Master's degree program in German as a Second Language/German as a Foreign Language pursues two basic goals:Science & empiricism on the one hand and Practical orientation & professional relevance on the other.
In the application-oriented Master's degree program in DaZ/DaF, practical relevance therefore plays a central role alongside specialist academic training. The course prepares students for specific professional fields and for academic qualifications based on a common DaZ/DaF curriculum.
Practical experience and language acquisition
The connection between theory and practice is particularly evident in the two compulsory internships: In the third semester (or in the 5th semester if studying part-time), students complete a weekly day internship accompanied by a seminar in the DaZ/DaF area (at primary or secondary schools, at language schools or in online courses). During the course of the course, the five-week, online-accompanied block internship also offers the opportunity to gain experience in various professional fields across the region or - thanks to numerous collaborations - internationally.
In addition, students reflect on their own language teaching and learning experiences through the compulsory learning of a previously unknown contrast language up to level A2. The language center at the PH Freiburg offers not only Spanish or Italian, but also Turkish, Russian or Arabic.
Professional skills and key qualifications
The theoretical training in specialist scientific and subject didactic courses enables students to acquire specific knowledge with a focus on DaZ/DaF. The close connection between theory and practice and events on current research questions also open up the career field of science (possibly with a doctorate).
Spread over four semesters (or six semesters part-time), the course also offers events to promote various key qualifications - partly integrative or in special courses. In addition to a complete module on project work in the DaZ/DaF area, skills in presentation and scientific processing of specific topics are also promoted, particularly in the examinations.
