Описание программы обучения "Industrial Management"

The "Industrial Management" study program, which has been offered since 2001 and developed further in 2004, 2009 and 2015, has been successfully accredited since 2004. It is interdisciplinary and links the teaching and research skills and resources available at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences across all departments. Taking this character into account, it is coordinated and professionally supervised as a model project by the central scientific institution "Institute for Knowledge Transfer and Digital Transformation (IWD)".

With its modular content and structural concept, the study program is aimed at graduates of engineering, media or economics courses who want to broaden their specialist knowledge in a basic complex (optionally management or natural and technical sciences) and scientifically deepen them in a specialist discipline close to the study focus of the first degree. The study program has a research-oriented profile.

The aim of the course is to use theory-oriented teaching with a strong practical focus to train an engineering and business-oriented expert who is sufficiently qualified to apply engineering and management techniques in small and medium-sized as well as industrial companies, to be creatively effective in a team and to work internationally thanks to qualified foreign language skills be.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Industrial Management"

Industry and the commercial and service companies that work with it are the driving economic power of a country. They define the requirements for the Industrial manager job profile. Traditional training paths no longer meet the complex requirements of the modern working world. The economy is looking for personalities who can help shape the market for industry and services of tomorrow. An interdisciplinary master's degree such as "Industrial Management" can train these personalities and thus meet the needs of the market.

Highly qualified employees with interdisciplinary skills have excellent career prospects in business - throughout Germany and around the world! High-growth sectors such as the automotive, logistics and media sectors and in particular the "hidden champions" in mechanical and plant engineering as well as electrical engineering and information technology are looking for well-qualified junior managers for demanding national and international tasks.

Against this background of constantly intensifying international competition, the relocation of production sites to growth regions all over the world, through acquisitions and mergers, the demands on managers are increasing enormously. You need to know more than just business basics. In-depth knowledge of management combined with skills in the specialist profile of the respective industry are required. The target group for the requirement profile described is recruited from three main directions:

  • Engineers and engineering-related professions with a generally narrowly limited competence profile in business administration and management,
  • Economists and business-related graduation profiles with deficits in the technical/technological background of the company processes to be managed,
  • Media and social scientists with high competence in the communicative and social area but comparatively little experience in application to company-related implementation scenarios.

The "Industrial Manager" of the special Mittweida master's program is intended to meet the profile of the interdisciplinary player in middle management levels expected by the economy through a broadly diversified, highly modularized and individually designable qualification program, which is characterized by the structural elements:

  • Broadening of knowledge in a basic complex (choice of one of two profile lines: management or natural and technical sciences)
  • Advanced knowledge in one of 11 research-related disciplines
  • Individual specialization through interdisciplinarity

marked.

Graduates of the Industrial Management course can take on specialist and management tasks in business and administration. In large companies, a specialist career is possible in individual functional areas, in small and medium-sized companies across disciplines. Due to the interdisciplinarity of the training program, the following fields of activity open up to graduates on the national and global job market:

  • Management
  • Controlling
  • Marketing
  • Logistics
  • Project/ Quality Management
  • Project/ product development
  • Project planning, construction
  • Support and Services

Ожидаемые результаты программы обучения "Industrial Management"

The Master's degree in Industrial Management combines business administration with engineering content and thus aims at a holistic, exploratory consideration of technical and economic content.

The central educational goals of the degree programs include scientific methods such as the in-depth analysis, interpretation and evaluation of facts. The students will be able to explore subject areas independently and to find strategies and possible courses of action for problem situations using solution-oriented approaches. By teaching scientific techniques for research and documentation, the study program aims to internalize practices and processes for researching and evaluating information. In addition, the students should gain insight into database and archive systems in order to be able to use and develop such systematic classification mechanisms themselves.

One of the key skills that the study program strives to teach is critical reflection, which is not least developed on the basis of scientific work. In addition, communicative and social skills are intensified with the help of seminar groups and project work. The demands on industrial managers are very high due to the broad and particularly detailed course content. Therefore, the development of willingness to cooperate and flexibility is one of the central educational goals. With the help of teamwork and interdisciplinary questions, the students are able to use the knowledge of the group effectively and thus support each other as experts, which is a central task in the professional practice of the industrial manager. In addition to well-trained problem-solving skills and the ability to negotiate, there is also leadership skills, which include delegating tasks and controlling major decision-making processes.

The course also strives to provide students with comprehensive and interdisciplinary knowledge of engineering and economics topics. These include strategic management, success controlling, operation research, materials technology, microprocessor technology, energy management, biotechnology, communication management, financial management and IT. The high degree of interdisciplinarity requires students to deal strategically with concepts, functionalities and technical processes. This should be accomplished primarily through practical examples and project-oriented assignments. The content should therefore be conveyed in a practical and application-oriented manner in order to enable the students to recognize the resulting theories, strategies and models in their contexts and to use them for themselves. This enables students to recognize and evaluate innovative technologies. Ultimately, this gives them the skills to optimize and take over the organization and processes in companies.
