The international bachelor's degree program in Marine Geosciences provides a fundamental, science-based understanding of the Earth's system with a focus on oceans, and enables graduates to contribute professionally to the sustainable development of this habitat. The program allows students to specialize in three of seven areas of concentration and provides a solid foundation for a master's

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Marine Geosciences"

The BSc Marine Geosciences program is the first undergraduate degree program with a marine geosciences profile in Germany. The program prepares students for careers in Marine Geosciences in the German and international labor market as well as for further qualification in marine research (Master, PhD). It trains the next generation for our own international MSc Marine Geosciences program and for similar programs at German and foreign universities. The international nature of the program ensures a diverse student body, which, through the students and their shared learning experiences, develop close ties that will later lead to strong working and research collaborations. The integration of lecturers from research institute  (MARUM, AWI, MPI, SaM, ZMT) and the embedding of many laboratory- and site-related project parts promotes the desired research-related learning.

Международный обмен по программе обучения "Marine Geosciences"

It is possible to integrate a semester or year abroad into your studies. In general, the stay is placed in the third year of study. Study achievements from abroad are recognized upon prior agreement.

Self-organized stays can be completed worldwide, exchange cooperations exist with four universities outside the EU.

There are currently 12 partnerships within the framework of the Erasmus program.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Marine Geosciences"

The completion of a professional internship of at least four weeks is a mandatory part of the degree program. The internship should provide an insight into the professional life of a marine geoscientist and should take place in a non-university professional field of marine geosciences. It can also be completed at a non-university research institute.

Учебный план программы обучения "Marine Geosciences"

The study structure includes a basic education in natural science and geosciences in the first two semesters, a marine and geoscientific specialization in the 3rd semester and a compulsory elective area with three specializations of your choice from the 4th semester onwards. A module for the geological filed competencies, a general studies area for the acquisition of interdisciplinary competences, as well as a module for the bachelor thesis complete the study plan.

The elective area includes the 7 core subjects Geochemistry, Paleontology, Sedimentology, Paleoceanography, and Geoinformatics as well as Exploration Geophysics and Geodynamics from the BSc Geosciences, which are offered bilingually in German and English. With appropriate knowledge of German, students have access to the entire range of core  subjects offered in the BSc Geosciences. Due to largely non-overlapping organization of the the core subject courses, a diverse combination of  subjects is possible.

An essential component of the program is a basic field education with two introductory excursions on general and structural geological aspects, two regional geological excursions in the Central European region, and several field internships linked to the specialization areas. In addition, students practice marine geological working techniques during an excursion with the research vessel ALKOR as part of the module "Marine Sediments". Further processing of sediment archives is then carried out in the project course "Sediment Core Project".

General Studies:

The General Studies area is dedicated to developing digital and professional competencies and important key skills that will provide students with skills in computer applications, programming, working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and scientific working. The construction of scientific reports, proper technical language, and appropriate forms of presentation are practiced and assessed. Students can freely choose courses from subject-supplementary studies at the University of Bremen in the amount of 6 CP in order to profile themselves according to individual needs and interests or to acquire language skills in German. A tutoring activity can be credited as a course achievement in the General Studies area in the module "Interdisciplinary Skills".

Typical Course Types

The range of courses includes lectures, exercises, practicals, project exercises, field exercises, excursions and seminars. Lectures impart the basics of a subject area. Methods are learned in exercises and practical courses. Students contribute to seminars with their own presentations, and in project exercises they solve concrete tasks together under supervision. An essential part of a marine geoscience course is field training, which covers all areas of geology, geophysics, marine geology and paleontology. You have to expect a personal contribution to your field trip costs of about 400 € per year.
