At the beginning of the 21st century, there is a unique opportunity for young engineers to sustainably influence and redesign the major socio-political issue of "mobility". In the coming decades there will be a pluralization of drive concepts, sensors and control systems. Tomorrow's innovations from the future sectors of electrical engineering and mechanical engineering and their traditional fields of application, for example the automotive industry, production engineering or medical technology, contain more and more functions. In the future, systems will increasingly consist of a complex multitude of networked mechanical, electrical and information technology subsystems. Their functionality only arises from the interaction of the subcomponents.

In order to consider the complex systems based on the individual electrical, electronic, mechanical and information technology sub-components and at the same time to consider the overall function, a technology-open and comprehensive approach will be required. In mobile systems, drive technology and sensor technology are growing together with the increasingly important communication and information technology. Engineers in mechatronics and information technology deal with the interdisciplinary interaction of mechanical, electronic and information technology elements and modules.

The bachelor's degree program has a standard period of six semesters. A total of no more than 10 semesters may be studied. About half of the last semester is devoted to the Bachelor thesis. The degree is “Bachelor of Science” (B.Sc). After successfully completing a bachelor's degree, a four-semester master's degree can be added.

Course content

1st - 4th semester: Higher mathematics, technical mechanics, fundamentals of electrical engineering, digital technology, machine design, electronic circuits, information technology, electromagnet. Fields, Signals and Systems, El. Machines and converters, manufacturing technology. The exams Linear Electrical Networks and Technical Mechanics I are orientation exams, i.e. they must have been successfully passed after three semesters.

5th-6th Semester: Mechatronic systems and products, compulsory elective area and key qualifications as well as bachelor thesis (three months processing time).
