The study of media culture studies impartes competences in various fields of original media cultural studies such as television, film, radio, theater and other cultural institutions, as well as in the field of cultural management. The master's program offered here also provides an insight into current research debates and thus also targets scientific work areas. In addition, the completion of the Master's program is an important prerequisite for doctoral studies.

In particular, questions about the interaction between media, culture and society are being focused on. A special feature of the degree program is the integration of theater studies into media culture studies, which has a long tradition in Cologne.
The master's program is conceived as an in-depth examination of the broad field of media culture and theater studies, which, in contrast to the bachelor program, places a stronger focus on overarching, that is trans- and intermedial questions on more complex media-historical constellations and gives special weight to current research debates. In this sense, the program can offer a conceptually strong research reference.
