Программа обучения "Physics" в TU Dortmund University

Physik

Physics tries to measure quantifiable natural phenomena through targeted experiments and to describe them theoretically using basic models that are as simple as possible. In a constant reciprocal cross-fertilization of experiment and theory, physics has now penetrated into the areas of the largest dimensions - in astrophysics - as well as into those of the smallest dimensions - in elementary particle physics. Anchoring the integration of experiment and theory, which is so successful in research, in training is one of the leitmotifs of the physics course at the Technical University of Dortmund.

Карьерные перспективы по завершению программы обучения "Physics"

The traditional professional fields for physicists are research, development and teaching, in the state (universities, research institutes, authorities, ...) and non-state areas (electrical industry, chemical industry, medical technology, machine and vehicle construction ...). The breadth of training in physics studies also increasingly opens up access to activities in non-traditional areas, such as information and telecommunications, management consulting as well as banking and finance, so that career prospects for physicists, with or without a doctorate, are good even in economically difficult times . The broad basic training and the ability to analyze and solve complex technical and scientific problems developed during the course of the course are decisive for the successful work of physicists in both traditional and new professional fields.

Стажировки и практика в программе обучения "Physics"

No external internships. Various laboratory internships and the research internship to prepare for the master’s project are integrated into the course (see study structure).

Учебный план программы обучения "Physics"

The bachelor's degree is based on the four-semester "integrated course" (Physics I-IV), which is designed and carried out jointly by an experimental and a theoretical lecturer. Twice a week, exercises are carried out in small groups to deepen and discuss the lecture material. This includes mechanics, thermodynamics and relativity theory (I), electrodynamics (II), waves and fields, optics and analytical mechanics (III) and finally atomic physics and quantum mechanics (IV). In addition, there is a physical beginner's internship in the 3rd and 4th semesters. Further components of the bachelor's degree are the minor subjects mathematics (with lectures and exercises) and either chemistry (with a lecture and an internship) or computer science (with a lecture including exercises and associated internship). In addition, there are other compulsory courses from the field of physics, the general specialization area (outside of physics) and the physical specialization area. The course concludes with the Bachelor thesis.

    Faculty of Physics
    TU Dortmund University

18 professors in 11 departments ensure a wide range of courses, supported by several private lecturers and scientists from external research institutes who teach at our faculty. More than 100 academic and non-academic employees work in all areas of research and teaching.

The faculty started teaching in 1970. In research, the focus was initially on solid-state physics and particle physics, followed by accelerator physics in 1985, which operates the Dortmund electron storage ring DELTA in the center for synchrotron radiation.

A special feature of the physics course in Dortmund is the integrated physics course in the bachelor’s degree, in which theoretical and experimental physics are taught jointly by two university professors from the two subject areas.

In addition to prospective physicists and teachers, we also train students from many other departments who have physics as a minor, which is compulsory in most engineering and chemistry, for example.
