Sections / contents / module descriptions

Majors The course has two main focuses that describe different fields of work and career opportunities in the health and social sectors. These are: - Health Economics & Health Management - Health promotion & prevention Anyone who chooses public health as a subject has two options to study this subject: a) Public Health / Health Sciences as a full subject: Public Health / Health Sciences can be studied as a full subject. This means that both major areas of study are studied, which enables basic health science education for the students: they acquire knowledge and skills in both professional fields. At the same time, the students complete their studies with a specialization that takes place in the 3rd year of study (see below) by selecting a focus-specific project and / or research practice and a bachelor thesis based on it. Depending on the major in which the students specialize, this will be shown in the certificate and on the certificate. b) Public Health / Health Sciences as a profile subject: The main areas of study are organized in such a way that it is possible to study public health / health sciences as a profile subject. This means that from the first semester onwards, the students decide on a major (including practical experience and BA work) and replace the second major with a complementary subject of their choice. In principle, many combinations of profile and complementary subjects are possible that the University of Bremen offers. The following complementary subjects can be recommended for the public health profile subject as meaningful and free of overlap: cultural sciences, political sciences, educational sciences.

Curriculum

The standard period of study comprises six study semesters, which are divided into three academic years. This structure has the following objectives: 1st Academic year: imparting scientific foundations The first year of study focuses on basic topics, concepts and approaches in public health / health sciences. Specifically, it is about: Teaching theoretical basics of the disciplines related to public health, e.g. B. Psychology, sociology, economics, medicine u. a., which make it possible to work on practical and application-related questions using scientific methods. Mediation of the ability to take up questions from application areas of the field of public health / health sciences from a multidisciplinary perspective in such a way that specific and interprofessional concepts can be developed and evaluated. Communication and understanding of the historical and current social, cultural and political developments and relationships in the health care field. 2nd Academic year: conveying health concepts and methods In order to enable the occupational field-oriented qualification of the students, the second year of study aims to further specialize in the respective focal points (health planning & health management as well as health promotion & prevention) of the bachelor's degree and the appropriation of occupational field-specific methods: Appropriation of specific occupational strategies and concepts as well as their application and evaluation in the context of different personal services and institutional settings. Appropriation of methods of action and thus the acquisition of job-specific skills (such as quality assurance, controlling, case & care management, health education and consulting methods). 3rd Academic year: Acquisition of occupational field-specific knowledge through a practical semester The specialization that has started in the specific field is rounded off by a practical semester and a final thesis based on it. The internship pursues the following training-relevant goals: Specialization in a specific professional field and getting to know specific institutional work tasks and structures; Learning specific occupational skills and possible integration / implementation of previously learned methods and concepts in institutional practices; Imparting professional knowledge and scientific knowledge through university support for the internship semester; Dialogue mediation between the needs of the institutions of social and health care and university education structure (e.g., by a practice office); Better entry into a profession through practical, occupational field-specific knowledge.
