University with tradition

The Berlin University of Technology was founded in 1971 as the Technische Fachhochschule Berlin (TFH) through the merger of four state engineering academies in Berlin: the engineering academies Beuth, Gauß and civil engineering as well as the engineering academy for horticulture. In order to emphasize the long tradition of the university, the TFH was renamed the Beuth University of Technology Berlin in 2009. As the most recent Beuth discourse showed, however, C.P.W. Beuth, in addition to his achievements in engineering, but now also for his anti-Semitism. Therefore, the university members decided to rename the university to the Berlin University of Technology in 2021.

Applied engineering, natural and economic sciences

The BHT offers its students a wide range of applied engineering, natural and economic sciences in over 70 accredited Bachelor and Master courses. The affiliated distance learning institute offers further study and educational offers.

The spectrum of the eight departments ranges from the classic engineering disciplines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial and civil engineering as well as architecture to innovative courses such as media informatics, biotechnology, medical physics, food technology, screen-based media, geographic information and event technology and management.

Practical teaching

The BHT stands for a professionally oriented, future-proof degree. Lessons take place in small groups. Key qualifications such as the ability to work in a team and social skills play a central role in the course.

The use of the latest technologies in teaching and research as well as the transfer of knowledge and technology between the university and companies are a matter of course at BHT. Professors not only have high academic qualifications, but also have many years of relevant professional experience.

Not least because of the good teaching and learning situation at universities of applied sciences, the majority of students finish their studies in the standard period of study, including a practical semester. The short study times and the high level of practical relevance enable a smooth entry into everyday professional life.

Application-related research

BHT is an attractive partner for business and industry for cooperation and joint projects. The focus is on applied research, and the BHT laboratories also have their own patents. Together with their professors, students contribute with ideas and initiative to the success of many research projects.

The BHT bundles innovative courses and research activities in the “City of the Future” competence center. The university would like to provide answers to the social, economic and technological requirements of Berlin and the cities of tomorrow.

BHT - as colorful as Berlin

Around 300 professors, 450 employees and 600 lecturers form a lively teaching and learning community with around 13,000 students. The student body of the BHT is particularly characterized by its diversity.
