Information technology (IT) and electrical engineering are inextricably linked in the modern, technology-driven economy. What has long been true for applications in business is also becoming more and more evident in everyone's everyday life. Keyword Internet of Things. The production and service processes summarized under this buzzword are always an interplay of IT systems, communication technology and electrical engineering-based automation systems.

This interweaving can be explained in a simplified manner using the example of a public transport mobility app. Information technology (IT) comprises all technologies for processing, using and storing information and thus forms the basis of the app. For example, data on the punctuality of the buses, the number of passengers or changes in the price of tickets are recorded. This data must be made available in a wide variety of contexts and the app must react differently depending on the data situation. IT does not only include the code and software with which the data is called up in the app, but also the hardware such as servers, mobile devices or network components. Since the system has to be protected against unauthorized access, IT security plays an increasingly important role. And people as users need interfaces that are capable of everyday use, here a user interface of the app, in order to be able to interact with them.

Electrical engineering comes into play as soon as processes have to be automated. For example, it has to be recognized whether a bus has already arrived at the bus stop or when an intelligent traffic light switch measures the volume of traffic and forwards the corresponding signals to the next traffic lights. In the not too distant future, buses will probably drive automatically, then electrical engineering will take care of things. in the form of sensors to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the truest sense of the word.

Even in the product development phase, the interaction between the different areas must be considered holistically. Technically, more is always possible. However, progress is slowed down by the lack of well-trained, interdisciplinary skilled workers. Because even a smoothly automated process has to be thought out, designed and tested in cooperation with competent engineers and IT experts at the beginning.

We have been training precisely these specialists since 1971. The technologies are changing, but not the demands on the quality of our courses: Oriented towards current overarching issues of the (digital) economy, enriched with a lot of practical experience of our teachers and always focused on the application.
