At the beginning of 2021, the Karlsruhe University of Music will celebrate its 50th anniversary as an institution in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Although the roots of the university go back to 1812, its status as a state institution was only confirmed in 1971. Today, the Karlsruhe University of Music is one of the leading educational institutions of its kind in Germany and enjoys a high level of international recognition. In 2013, the campus around Gottesaue Castle, one of Karlsruhe's landmarks, was finally opened. Previously, the university had had to be divided into different locations in the city for decades. In their anniversary year, today's university members particularly remember those colleagues who have played a crucial role in its success story over the past decades: the list of former lecturers includes more than 600 names.

IT'S A PRIVILEGE TO STUDY HERE

The Karlsruhe University of Music is one of the most progressive music universities in Germany. It combines classic with modern, tradition with innovation and is characterized by forward-looking thinking and engagement with the great European musical tradition. Students from over 60 nations learn and work together on a campus that is one of the most beautiful in Europe.

The artistic output is first-class: Many of the graduates perform at the most important national and international stages as instrumental soloists, singers or chamber musicians, and work in their home countries as musicologists, educators or journalists. In addition to traditional music training, students also benefit from the opportunity to get to know music-related, modern media and technologies, be it in connection with artificial intelligence, sonic arts or 3D motion capture. The State Center for Music Journalism and Music Informatics teaches and researches on these topics and also deals with cognitive processes in music perception.

The Karlsruhe University of Music is not just a center for academic training. As one of the leading concert organizers in Karlsruhe and the surrounding area, more than 400 events are held here every year. With these and numerous other educational offerings and initiatives, the Karlsruhe University of Music is firmly anchored in the city and the region.

Through numerous international collaborations, the university is connected to its partner institutions in Europe and the world. These include music colleges, universities and music academies in almost all European countries, but also the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the University of Michigan in AnnArbor, the UniRio and the UFRJ in Rio de Janeiro as well as the Kunitachi College of Music Tokyo.
