The TU Bergakademie Freiberg, as a resource university, focuses its research and teaching on how to deal responsibly with the finite resources of this earth. To this end, our six faculties develop efficient and alternative technologies for raw material extraction, energy technologies, materials and recycling processes and contribute significantly to solving economic and ecological challenges.
With the engineering, natural, geo, material and economic sciences, the university combines all areas of modern raw materials research in the basic area and application-oriented research. 4,000 students receive a scientifically sound and practice-oriented education in 72 courses of study. The close cooperation with companies gives students the advantage of being able to complete internships and assignments up to and including industrial doctorates.
As a technical university, the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology (TU Bergakademie) has a unique profile as a resource university with excellent competence in the field of sustainable raw materials and energy management as well as the recycling of materials and substances. Four core fields – Geo, Materials & Materials, Energy and Environment – give the university its unique profile, which enables it to realise holistic research approaches with practical relevance.
In order to address the economic and ecological challenges of the 21st century, the six faculties of the university conduct interdisciplinary research on alternatives for raw material extraction, energy technologies, materials and recycling processes. Together with national and international partners, we develop modern technologies and processes for the responsible use of finite resources.
The geosciences take a look at the entire Earth system. The focus is on innovative technologies for the exploration of new deposits, environmentally friendly mining and the sustainable processing of natural resources, taking into account economic and ecological aspects.
For the development of modern materials it is important to know what influences their properties and how they can be produced. To this end, the Freiberg materials experts look at the properties and possible applications as well as the internal structure of the materials in addition to various production technologies.
In order to be able to counteract the increasing scarcity of resources, the Freiberg scientists are working on new forms of energy generation, storage and conversion. The focus is also on concepts for international climate financing and their evaluation.
The preservation and protection of our environment is one of the most pressing challenges facing society. The environment-related research at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg focuses on the natural geo-ecosystem and its use, soil and drinking water protection or the processes of basic industry and energy management.
