Behavioral Scientist

Verhaltensforscher/in

Behavioral researchers observe how people or animals interact with their environment, make comparisons and look for explanations for the causes of certain behaviors. In doing so, they take into account both individual aspects and a variety of interrelationships: for example, they examine the human flirting ritual in comparison with the courtship behavior of other species or analyze the influence of environmental factors on learning processes or social behavior. They document their observations and compare them with similar observations. On the basis of their findings, they develop theories that they publish and discuss with experts. They also take on advisory, informative or managerial roles, e.g. in behavioral research institutes, zoos or nature parks.
