More details about Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences, Geosciences and Computer Science:

“Research and teaching in progress” – that more or less sums up today’s Faculty of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences, Geosciences and Computer Science. The transition in question refers not only to the fact that all the institutes are moving to a new site, but also to the altered configuration of the faculty, the new accredited BSc and MSc courses it offers, and the research profiles and areas of special interest it has recently developed.

Since 2010, all the institutes of Natural Sciences Faculty III have shared the Heide-Süd site on the Weinberg campus. As a result, the faculty’s institutes now benefit from optimum conditions for research and teaching in their thoroughly renovated accommodation, which has been extended to a very impressive standard. Considerable thought has been given to designing the infrastructure, and this – together with the faculty’s close proximity to the remainder of the fully integrated campus – has made an important contribution to the success of scientific exchanges and cooperation with other faculties.

The campus has much to offer, especially for the more than 2,400 students who are based there: individual mentoring, teaching which is enhanced by state-of-the-art technology, and a conducive atmosphere for studying. Research and teaching at the University also benefit from sharing fields of interest with and being geographically close to the scientific institutions of the Leibniz and Helmholtz Societies.

The faculty’s profile is characterised equally by theoretical pure research and by application-oriented research. As a result, regional and international businesses alike benefit from the targeted implementation of “knowledge transfer”. The interdisciplinary nature of the institutes’ work is reflected in the range of courses on offer, and enables students to prepare themselves for careers of the future, depending on their skills and interests. At the same time, “learning through research” – especially on MSc courses – allows students to be totally immersed in the problem areas currently being explored by national and international research associations.
