Развитие предметной области

Establishment and development of the field

Psychology established itself as a scientific discipline in the last third of the 19th century. During this time, a laboratory was established at the University of Leipzig for the first time to examine psychological phenomena. Numerous universities then set up institutes for psychology and a large number of textbooks on this topic were published. With the 20th century, various basic currents of psychology emerged, including, for example, the psychoanalysis founded by Sigmund Freud and behaviorism, which focuses on behavioral analysis. Today psychology is divided into numerous specialist areas.

On the way to an independent subject

Business psychology as a focus within general psychology developed at the beginning of the 20th century. The first textbook appeared in 1912 under the title "Psychology and Economic Life". Within the focus, the research dealt with the analysis of economic behavior in private households and in companies, but also with work psychological aspects such as employee selection and employee satisfaction. Since the labor market signaled the need for interdisciplinary trained employees, independent courses in business psychology were designed and established from the mid-1990s.
