Undergraduate

The undergraduate subject Composition imparts basic scientific knowledge in music theory and musicology as well as artistic skills in instrumental and electronic music composition and leads to a first professional university degree.


Mandatory modules (example):

  • Introduction to music informatics
  • Electronic composition
  • History and repertoire: music history, instrument studies, theory of forms
  • Hearing ability and work analysis: music, harmony theory, listening and work analysis
  • Practice: instrumental playing, ear training
  • Technology: Image and sound studio technology
  • Theory: Art and media theory, introduction to musical composition
  • Science: music history, acoustics and instrument studies

Elective modules (example):

  • Choir, orchestra, ensemble playing
  • Conducting, ensemble management
  • Jazz theory
  • Chamber music, song accompaniment
  • Live electronics
  • Digital media
  • Historical typesetting techniques

Practical course content:

  • If necessary. Internships (e.g. in symphony orchestras)
