Establishment of the subject area
The marine habitat extends over more than two thirds of the earth's surface. However, it was only in the last 100 years that scientific and technical possibilities arose to research marine habitats, their creatures and life processes. Science courses began to deal with marine biological issues. In the last ten years, master's courses in marine biology were established. These focus on the analysis of the natural system of the ocean, possible usage potentials and risks, for example for the ecosystem, and prepare students to solve interdisciplinary issues.
