Развитие предметной области
Establishment and development of the subject area
The fundamentals and effects of music were already being researched in ancient times. In the Middle Ages, "sciencia musica" was one of the so-called "seven liberal arts" and was viewed as a mathematical and scientific discipline. In the 18th century, historical studies on the history of Western music were referred to as “musical sciences”. It was only towards the end of the 19th century that the term musicology emerged as a term for music research. Initially, musicology was based on research methods from other subjects, such as classical philology or art history. In the last third of the 19th century it finally developed into its own academic discipline at the first music universities.
Now the subject of musicology not only aims to classify music in its historical, cultural and social context within historical and systematic musicology, but also to explore future-oriented paths. For example, course content is international and geared towards the global presence of the music industry or innovative, contemporary music concepts are sought in interdisciplinary collaboration, for example with sociology, economics and cultural studies.
