Undergraduate

The undergraduate subject of musicology provides basic scientific and practical knowledge in musicology, historical musicology, ethnomusicology, applied music theory and musicological methods and leads to a first professional university degree.

The course is partly offered in the form of combined bachelor's degree courses.

Musicology can also be studied as part of teacher training courses.

  • Professional fields of musicology
  • Introduction to systematic musicology
  • Fundamentals and methods of musicological work
  • Contemporary music
  • Music history, historical musicology
  • Notation and source studies
  • Sentence theory and ear training
  • Text and music relationship: vocal music and text setting

Elective subjects (example):

  • Professional qualification
  • Subject didactics: history and practice of interpretation
  • Music didactics and music education
  • Organizational, pedagogical and social skills

Practical course content:

  • If necessary. Internships (e.g. at broadcasters, daily newspapers, in cultural offices or music publishers)
