Establishment of the field
With the establishment of the Press and Information Office in West Germany (1949) and the establishment of press offices, the professional field of activity began to develop rapidly. Initially, numerous (non-academic) training and further education opportunities were created. From the mid-1980s, the PR agency sector experienced a strong upswing, as public relations in particular became more important for companies. During this time, there was also an intensive academic discussion of public relations and communication management. Finally, in 1993, the first chair for public relations was established at the University of Leipzig.
