Friedrich Schiller University Jena

Undergraduate Winter Semester

In lectures and self-study you practice the technical notion of collecting and analyzing works of art and gain an independent overview of the history of art from the Middle Ages to the present including their respective theory and artistic genres (material, sculpture, architecture, photography, film, Etc.). In particular, the historical-critical way of working is learned, to which special art-historical, film, photography and media science as well as pictorial methods of analysis and argumentation are added. They thus acquire a fundamental competence in the scientific treatment and assessment of aesthetically designed environments and in the communication of art in a systematic and historical perspective. At the same time, the subject Art History & Film Studies offers an introduction to humanities concepts and ways of working.
