Continuing a well-established tradition of cultural sciences in Lüneburg, Leuphana's Masters programme in Culture, Arts and Media engages the disciplines of the humanities and the social sciences in an interdisciplinary dialogue. Investigating research questions within their historical context and in all their disciplinary complexity, students are given the opportunity to come up with new answers and innovative approaches while interacting with a number of different perspectives.
The Masters programme in Cultural Sciences – Culture, Arts and Media combines overlapping issues from cultural sciences and cultural theory with an extensive orientation and specialisation in various disciplines and subject areas relevant to cultural sciences.
Students and teachers with different disciplinary background work together in an interdisciplinary environment characterised by intensive research on issues which are introductory, theoretically advanced, forward-looking and historical, relevant to everyday life as well as very fundamental: How can the digital change be understood, and how can its challenges be encountered? Which logical, rhetorical and aesthetic features distinguish texts, and which orders of "knowledge" do they imply? Which specific "knowledge" is (re-)produced by visual arts and cultural fields characterised by visuality? How can cultural-historical accesses to present and past be understood in the context of cultural upheavals? What are the disciplinary backgrounds for cultural research?
The study programme enables an individual professional orientation and specialisation through the choice of an area of concentration and a minor. The Cultural Sciences Area of Integration provides a common foundation for cultural sciences. With the teaching research project you realise an independent research-related project under professional guidance. The cross-disciplinary complementary studies programme supplements and expands subject-specific contents with a perspective reflecting on academics and practical application. The various elective and combination opportunities in the Masters programme in Cultural Sciences – Culture, Arts and Media enable an interest-driven course of studies and contribute towards a deepened understanding of socially relevant topics. Upon completion of studies you earn the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree.
