Friedrich Schiller University Jena

Undergraduate Winter Semester

Dentistry deals with the detection and treatment of dental, oral and jaw diseases. The study of dentistry leads to the completion of the state examination. It will be supplemented by subsequent further education courses that will accompany you throughout your entire professional life. Both the training and the practice of the dental profession are regulated by the licensing regulations for dentists. The training as a dentist is carried out on a scientific basis and is oriented towards practice and patients. The university course is divided into three study periods of one, one and a half and two and a half years duration. The first preclinical study section contains the scientific fundamentals (biology, chemistry, physics) and the introduction to anatomy, histology and material science. The second preclinical study section covers training in physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, dental prosthetics and materials science. The subsequent clinical study section includes training in the individual clinical areas of dentistry. He completes the dental exam. After successful completion of studies, the license to practice as a dentist, ie the state admission to practice, is granted upon application. It applies nationwide.
